Teaching

I have designed and taught 8 courses independently as Instructor of Record in at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Metro State University in St. Paul.

I take my teaching very seriously, committing my time and energy to reflecting on my technique and developing pedagogy. I achieve very strong student engagement, participation, completion of course readings and assignments, and most importantly, students often tell me the course was transformative in their own personal and professional development. I receive ratings above the average for my department and letters from students sharing their gratitude – for which I am deeply honored.

I have taught independent courses in the following areas: Introductory Sociology, Sociology of Social Movements, Sociology of Globalization, and Sociology of Development and Global Theory.

In addition to the 6 independent courses, I have served as a Teaching Assistant for the Department of Sociology 13 times, across the following areas: Environment and Society, Waste, Consumption and the Environment, Earth in Crisis, Climate Justice, Development and Global Theory, Introductory Sociology, Radical Social Change, and Social Movements.

This chart shows scores for each quarter for which I taught an independent course as instructor of record. The scores here represent the percentage of students for the course who rated the instructor’s overall teaching quality as either “a) excellent” or “b) very good”, out of “a) excellent”, “b) very good”, “c) good”, “d) fair”, or “e) poor”.
